Cassida vibex
Date First Recorded in the Garden: 20/04/2025

This breeding pair was recorded in the Garden on the 20th March 2025, our first record of this species. Found mating on Black Knapweed, one of the species’ known food plants. There are several species of Cassida in the UK, but in general, the coloration below, with the dark central band and the dark spot on either side, makes this likely vibex.

The coloration acts as brilliant camouflage, which, combined with the ability to flatten themselves completely against the surface of the leaf, means they are generally well protected.
