Rotifers are usually difficult/impossible to see with the naked eye and some form of magnification is required. They live in fresh water (some also in marine environments), within wet soil and other locations where moisture is retained, shaded mosses for example. They form part of the zooplankton so important in many food chains. They themselves are nutrient recyclers, feeding on particulate organic matter, fungi, bacteria etc.
