This is an unmistakable moth, nothing else looks just like this. It’s mainly associated with wetlands, which we have in abundance nearby. It flies both by day and night and we have had them turn up in the moth trap.
In Brislington it’s one of those species you don’t see until around June time when suddenly for a few weeks they turn up almost daily.
Anyone not totally familiar with this species may query why a black moth with white and yellow spots is called a scarlet tiger. The answer is demonstrated nicely below when you see the red underwings flashing brightly in flight…
