Ruby Tiger Moth – Phragmatobia fuliginosa 

A striking moth and fairly frequent visitor back in the days when we moth trapped regularly. Cannot really be mistaken for anything else.

We do occasionally see the caterpillars, which are known to feed on ragwort (along with a few other plants) which is present in the garden. However we found this fella on the ground, nowhere near any of its listed food plants???
