Dicyrtomina saundersi

Another hard to be certain species. Online references suggest this species can be confused with Dicyrtomina ornata but we suspect this is saundersi. Found in soil samples we find these little guys fascinating. We have several other species of springtails yet to identify so overall investing in some reference material may be in order.

Another species that clearly wants to avoid light, as most soil living species would. We managed to get this video by separating an individual into a dish for a few moments. As with the Oribatida mites, these globular species seem to struggle to stay upright on a glass surface. (click here to see video of Oribatida HERE)
