We recorded the individual below on the concrete steps leading down to the bottom level of the garden.
A rather attractive slug, often considered as part of a species group alongside Arion distinctus and Arion owenii.
A.owenii is usually a brownish colour, whilst A.distinctus is lighter than A.hortensis and has gold markings on its tubercles. A.hortensis is usually the darker of the three, as can be seen below and as the video above shows there are less / a lack of gold markings on the tubercles. Note that all species are bright orange underneath and this can also be seen at the start of the video above.
