Just the one species from this family recorded in the Garden so far, the Large Skipper (Ochlodes venata). No evidence this species is breeding in the Garden; we have certainly never spotted its caterpillar here. But we do have suitable habitat, long rough grass, so maybe one day a female will arrive and lay her eggs in the Garden.

A common species, most likely encountered during hot weather conditions. Especially the males, like the one below, which are more frequently seen as the patrol the area on the lookout for a mate.

The similar Small Skipper (Thymelicus sylvestris) is recorded in the local area, but we have yet to see one in the Garden.
