Species List

Welcome to our gardens ‘Species List’ page. As noted on our websites ‘Introduction’ page, the objective here is to gradually build up a list of all the species that we record in our small garden in the Brislington area of Bristol (UK). The list in no way reflects the biodiversity of the garden itself, many species are simply passing through.

Confidence: Our confidence level in terms of identification

  • Confirmed – We are confident we have this to species identified to species level. On occasions we have had this confirmed by recording groups.
  • Most Likely Species or MLS. We have selected our best guess to the correct species, whilst acknowledging there are other similar species.
  • Unsure. We are not sure of the species so have instead recorded to next most confident level, genus, family etc.

Resident / Visitor: Whether we feel the species is established

  • Permanent Resident – Species that when looked for are often found and we suspect they complete their large parts of their life cycles within the garden.
  • Likely Permanent Resident – As above but we either don’t see them as often or are unsure whether they complete their life cycles within the garden.
  • Likely Occasional Resident – The needs of the species is present and the species is recorded repeatedly in the Garden, but not actually recorded completing its life cycle.
  • Unsure – Unsure if they are resident or just a visitor.
  • Visitor – Nothing to suggest they are resident, individuals likely passing through.

Introduced: Normally for plants/fungi which we introduce
